Preparing for the Academy

The IFSI Academy Program delivers a comprehensive training experience. The curriculum maximizes every hour of available training to ensure students are effectively prepared for the profession.

We value our candidates' time and strive to offer a training schedule that balances classroom lectures and discussions with repetitive skill development rotations and live burn training. Each training day is unique. Every training day is carefully planned and executed.

Sample Daily Training Schedule:

0630-0730 Physical Training (PT)
0730-0800 Rehab and House Duties
0800-0830 Roll Call and LODD MOS

0830-0930 Lecture and/or Weekly Quiz
0930-1130 Skill Development Stations – Four Rotations
1130-1230 Lunch
1230-1430 Live Fire Training Evolution – Alpha and Bravo Companies
Ventilation Hands-On Demo/Practical Skills Application – Charlie and Delta Companies
1430-1630 Live Fire Training Evolution – Charlie and Delta Companies
Ventilation Hands-On Demo/Practical Skills Application – Alpha and Bravo Companies
1630-1730 Circle Time – Skill Development (SCBA, Emergency Procedures, Ropes/Knots)
1730 Announcements, Overview, Dismissal

Candidate Preparation:

It is important for a candidate to train before the first day of the Academy. It is equally important to rest and let your body recover throughout the Academy experience.

Tips for Success:

  • Eat well and hydrate the body.
  • Wear proper shoes for training and running.
  • Consult a doctor if you have any concerns about physical exercise.
  • Mentally prepare. The Academy is not intended to be easy.
  • Prepare your gear and double check to make sure you have everything on the provided packing list.
  • Develop an academic plan that suits your learning style. Do this early in the program.
