On February 5, 2015, Chief Kenneth Lehr of the Medora Community Fire Protection District died in the line of duty. While attempting to close off Illinois Route 111 to allow for a helicopter to land safely for a medical emergency, Chief Lehr was struck by a fire apparatus as it was backing up. Chief Lehr passed away at the scene from injuries sustained when he was struck.
