On March 5, 2013, Firefighter Christopher R. Brown of the Hudson Community Fire Protection District died in the line of duty when he was struck by a vehicle while at the scene of a motor vehicle accident in Hudson, Illinois.
Brown responded with Hudson Community Fire Protection District firefighters to a multiple vehicle accident on Interstate 39. During emergency operations at the scene of the accident, a semi-tractor trailer traveling southbound lost control and struck 3 emergency response vehicles and injured 6 firefighters, including Brown. After being transported to the Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, Brown succumbed to his injuries.
Brown had been a volunteer firefighter with the Hudson Community Fire Protection District for 3 years and had been a full-time firefighter with the Bloomington Fire Department for 12 years. Over 4,000 people, including firefighters from across Illinois, attended the visitation honoring Brown. He was survived by his widow and two sons.
