On December 19, 1932, Firefighter Fritz Jungwirth of the East Dubuque Fire Department became ill while fighting two residential fires. He was treated for exposure at Finley Hospital, but he succumbed to pneumonia on January 4, 1933.
Funeral services for Jungwirth were held at St. Mary’s Church on January 7, and he was interred at East Dubuque Cemetery. He was survived by his widow, parents, and three sisters.
