On October 3, 2010, Hindsboro Community Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Thomas Innes died in the line of duty.
On October 2, Innes responded to a medical emergency at around 10:45PM. Shortly after returning home, he became ill. Innes was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Funeral services for Innes were held at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland on October 8, and he was interred at Van Voorhis Cemetery. He was survived by his widow, mother, four children, and five grandchildren.
