Firefighter Patrick Brown of the Chicago Fire Department received the Medal of Valor for his efforts to rescue a victim from an apartment fire in 2010.
Brown entered a five-story apartment with heavy smoke conditions to search for a victim who called in distress. He crawled down the hallway and counted apartment doors until he found the victim’s apartment. He found the victim in the bathtub and removed his own mouthpiece to place on the victim’s face before carrying them to safety.
