Incident Summary
On August 5, 1951, Berwyn Fire Department Engineer Ralph Crook suffered a fatal heart attack while on duty at the Engine 91 firehouse. Crook had just finished his scheduled night watch and was talking to his replacement on the apparatus floor when he began to have chest pains. Ambulance 95 responded from the Engine 92 firehouse on 16th Street, but efforts to revive Crook were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at Berwyn Hospital. An eight-year veteran of the department, Crook was survived by his widow, Theresa, and two children, Catherine and Joseph.
