On January 17, 1922, Bloomington Fire Department Captain Lawrence Burns died from injuries suffered on January 15, at a fire at A. M. E. Church.
Captain Burns was jerked by a charged hoseline while working on the icy roof of the Church and lost his balance. He fell from the roof and landed on his head and shoulder and was taken to Mennonite Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
