Incident Summary
In September 1987, Firefighter/Paramedic Russell Winchester of the Glenbrook Fire District was fatally injured in the line of duty. Winchester joined other firefighters from the Glenbrook Fire District for a training exercise at Glenview Naval Air Station, and during a break he fell and struck his head while tossing around a football. Winchester was hospitalized for several days, but succumbed to his injuries on September 29. The Glenbrook Fire District merged with the Glenview Fire Department a few years later, and the Glenview Fire Department has continued to recognize Firefighter Winchester as a local line of duty death.
