In December 1984, James Lausch, an apparatus operator for the Joliet Fire Department, died in his sleep at Station One. Lausch had fallen asleep on a couch after responding to a few calls earlier in the night, and when he did not wake up the next morning, his fellow firefighters discovered that he had suffered a heart attack during the night.
