Incident Summary

On November 13, 1951, Chicago Fire Department Firefighter Edward S. Sheridan of Engine 58 suffered a fatal heart attack while on duty. A thirty-year veteran of the department, Sheridan served on the fireboat Victor Schlaeger, in the Calumet River. Sheridan, who had served in the U.S. Navy during World War I, had previously been assigned to the fireboats Fred Busse and Joseph Medill. Sheridan’s funeral mass was held at St. Bride’s Church on November 16.
