On October 7, Chicago Fire Department Truckman David J. Burke of Truck 8 died in the line of duty while responding to a fire alarm on Archer Avenue. Burke was thrown from the fire wagon he was driving when the front wheels struck a curb while turning at an intersection. Burke attempted to jump back into his seat, but he was caught under the back wheels of the wagon and crushed. He was transported to his home, where he died from his severe injuries.
