On February 15, 1892, Chicago Fire Department Candidate Dennis F. King of Truck 1 died in the line of duty following a training accident. King, a member of the department for ten days, was climbing a ladder as part of a pompier ladder drill outside the firehouse when he fell from the third story tower. He was transported to Mercy Hospital where he died.
