On May 1, 1934, Chicago Fire Department Firefighter Maurice Moloney of Engine 30 was seriously injured while responding to a fire alarm. Moloney fell off the sliding pole and broke his back when he struck the concrete floor. On June 17, 1936, Moloney died at Alexian Brothers hospital from his injuries.
