On December 14, 1954, Battalion Chief Bernard Farmer of the 23rd Battalion of the Chicago Fire Department died while in the performance of duty at a fire. Farmer had responded to the fire at 4736 Iowa and after returning to Engine 67 quarters, died from a stroke.
Battalion Chief Farmer became a member of the Chicago Fire Department on January 5, 1921 and was survived by his wife and three children.
