On April 24, 1954, Chicago Fire Department Captain Charles Katyll of Engine 33 died at his firehouse after returning from two extra alarm fires. He had been a firefighter for twenty-five years and a captain for seven years.
A requiem mass was held at St. Bartholomew’s Church on April 28, and he was survived by a daughter, three brothers, and a sister.
