On December 9, 1949, Chicago Fire Department Firefighter Harry J. Lemm of Truck 47 died in the line of duty while fighting an apartment building fire on Magnolia Avenue. Lemm was overcome by smoke while he was fighting the fire on the third floor of the building, and he made his way down to the ground floor before he collapsed.
