On October 30, 1934, Chicago Fire Department Firefighter Walter Rubin of Engine 26 died in the line of duty after he was struck by an automobile while fighting a fire at the intersection of Ohio Street and Kedzie Avenue. Rubin was transported to Franklin Boulevard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
