Incident Summary
On April 12, 2024, Firefighter Cristian Medrano of the Aurora Fire Department died in the line of duty.
On April 11, 2024, Firefighter Medrano participated in strenuous search and rescue exercises while wearing firefighting protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) as part of his training at the Aurora Fire Academy. He was found deceased at his home within 24 hours of training due to a cardiovascular incident.
Firefighter Medrano joined the Aurora Fire Department in March of 2024 and was assigned to Station 1. He was survived by his parents, siblings, and longtime girlfriend. Funeral services were held at Dieterle Memorial Home in Montgomery, Illinois on April 16, 2024.
