On October 8, 2021, Firefighter Michael Pickering of the Chicago Fire Department died in the line of duty from complications of COVID-19 after being exposed to the virus while on duty.
Funeral services for Pickering were held at Hann Funeral Home on October 15, and he was buried at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, Illinois.
Pickering had been a firefighter with the Chicago Fire Department since 2003 and worked on Engine 29 in the Bridgeport neighborhood.
