On April 29, 2020, Firefighter/Paramedic Robert David Reisinger of the River Grove Fire Department died in the line of duty from complications of COVID-19 after being exposed to a patient with the virus while on duty.
Reisinger responded to a medical emergency on March 24, 2020 where the patient had a known case of COVID-19 and subsequently contracted the virus. While quarantined at home for the virus, he suffered a stroke attributed to COVID-19 and passed away.
Reisinger had been a firefighter with the River Grove Fire Department for nearly 18 years and was also EMS system coordinator at Stroger Hospital in Chicago.
