On January 11, 2016, Oak Park Fire Department Firefighter Kenneth Harris died in the line of duty.
On the morning of January 11, Harris finished his 24 hour shift at the Oak Park Fire Department and then worked an additional 6 hours of fire prevention duties. Shortly after returning home, he suffered a fatal heart attack.
Funeral services for Harris were held at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Norridge on January 18, and he was interred at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oak Brook Terrace. Harris had served as a firefighter for the Oak Park Fire Department for 28 years at the time of his death. He was survived by his wife, five children, and four grandchildren.
