On December 11, 1919, Captain Thomas Burke of the Chicago Fire Insurance Patrol died in the line of duty while responding to a fire alarm on North Michigan Avenue. Burke was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
