On April 25, 1971, Lieutenant William J. Zink, a 33-year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department, suffered chest pains while on duty with the 17th Battalion. Several hours later he suffered a heart attack in his home and was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where he died in the early hours of April 26.
