On March 3, 1922, Chicago Fire Department Candidate John J. Walsh fell fifty-five feet from a pompier ladder during an exercise at the fire training academy located at Sebor and South Des Plaines Streets. Walsh was transported to Cook County Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
