Bio:

Rick Haase is currently employed as the emergency response / security team leader / fire chief for the ConocoPhillips Wood River Refining Company in Wood River, Il.
As the refinery fire chief he manages all fire, EMS, rescue and haz mat response operations for the 300,000bpd. 3000 acre facility as well as coordinating most safety engineering functions. The refinery has a 250 member response team and opertes 25 apparatus, 11 trailers and 2 boats from 3 stations. Rick has been employed at the Wood River Refinery for the past 26 years, and has served as fire chief for the past 20 years.

Rick is also active in the volunteer sector as the Chief of the Staunton Fire Protection District in Staunton. Rick has been a member of the Staunton FPD for the last 28 years, and has served as training officer and assistant chief. The Staunton FPD is a volunteer department with 45 active volunteers which covers 36 square miles in southern Macoupin County and northern Madison County. The SFPD operates 3 engines, a tender, a rescue, a brush truck, at ATV and a special opertions trailer out of a single station.



Besides being involved in the fire service organization, Chief Haase also currently serves as chairman of MABAS Division 35 and is a haz mat sector leader for the Madison County Haz Mat Team. He also an operations chief for the ConocoPhillips Incident Management Team which is a corporate overhead ICS team that responds throughout North and South America.

Rick Haase has associate degrees in industrial electronics and fire science technology and a bachelor degree in advanced fire administration. He holds 16 Illinois State Fire Marshal training certifications and is a certified emergency program manager, a chief fire officer designee, a certified fire protection specialist, a . He is also a member of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, the National Fire Protection Association, the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, and numerous other local, state and national fire and safety organizations.

Rick has served as Chairman of the IAFC Industrial Fire and Safety Section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs since 2010, and served as the vice-chairman from 1998 to 2010 and also served as an Industrial Fire and Safety Section Team Leader from 1995 to 1997. He is also a charter member of both the IAFC Volunteer and Combination Officer Sections and the Safety, Health and Survival Section.

Rick Haase has served as a field staff instructor for the Illinois Fire Service Institute for over 14 years. He has taught classes within the hazardous materials, industrial, LPG, and firefighting areas. He has also taught at numerous state and national fire service conferences and written over 20 articles for national fire service magazines and publications.

During 2004, Rick Haase was named the Volunteer Fire Chief of the Year by Fire Chief Magazine and in 2001 he was named State of Illinois Volunteer Fire Chief of the Year.
