The Challenge Exam for the NFPA Hazardous Materials Operations is designed to give trained responders the opportunity to obtain national certification. Evaluations, including a written exam and multiple skill stations, will be conducted over one day. Upon successful completion of this objective process, national certification is awarded to the candidate, and the candidate’s name will be entered in both the IFSAC and ProBoard registries.
Written Test: Candidates are given one attempt to pass the written exam. Additional attempts at the written exam can be scheduled at a regional test site at a later date. There will be an additional fee for written exam retakes.
Skills Testing: Skills are evaluated and are referenced to NFPA 1072 JPRs. Some of these skills involve SCBA evolutions. Candidates are given two attempts at each skill evaluation.
Skill Sheets: Performance Evaluation Checklists can be viewed here.
