The Challenge Exam for NFPA Firefighter II is designed to give trained responders the opportunity to obtain national certification. Evaluations, including a written exam and multiple skill stations, will be conducted over one day. Upon successful completion of this objective process, national certification is awarded to the candidate, and the candidate’s name will be entered in both the IFSAC and ProBoard registries.
Written Test: There is a written exam. Candidates are given two attempts. Additional attempts at the written exam can be scheduled at a regional test site at a later date.
Skills Testing: Skills are evaluated and are referenced to NFPA 1001 JPRs. Some of these skills involve live-fire evolutions. Candidates are given two attempts at each skill.

IFSI prerequisites are based on Illinois and NFPA standards. Equivalencies from other agencies will be reviewed upon request.
