St. Louis Downtown Airport Fire Chief Mike Mavrogeorge was sworn in as the Vice President of the International Association of Fire Chiefs Great Lakes Division at the IAFC Fire Rescue International Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 27, 2017. Chief Mavrogeorge has served as an instructor for the Illinois Fire Service Institute since 2005.
Mike Mavrogeorge has served as the Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director of Saint Louis Downtown Airport since 2008. Saint Louis Downtown Airport is the third busiest airport in the State of Illinois and is located across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Missouri, in St. Clair County, Illinois. He began his fire service career in 1993 and has served on both volunteer and career fire departments. In addition to time spent in the fire service, he also previously served as a law enforcement officer.
Chief Mavrogeorge has served as Chairman of the Illinois Fire Services Association since 2015 and has served on the Executive Board of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association since 2009 as a Director and Area Representative. He is the Legislative Chairman and Alternate Member of the Illinois Terrorism Task Force. In 2016, Chief Mavrogeorge was elected to serve as the Illinois Representative on the International Association of Fire Chiefs Great Lakes Division Executive Board. He also currently serves as the Vice Chair of the International Association of Fire Chiefs Emergency Management Committee.
