On July 25, 2005, Captain Daniel Kenneth Rebbe of the Springfield Fire Department died in the line of duty following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
Funeral services for Rebbe were held at Christ the King Church on July 27, and he was interred at Calvary Cemetery. He was survived by his widow and two children.
A member of the Springfield Fire Department for twenty-five years, Rebbe was remembered as an outspoken and enthusiastic firefighter, who could ride the fire station exercise bike all day.
