IFSI's Partnership with Parkland College
Through collaboration between Parkland College and the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute, college credit is available for IFSI courses that occurred after 1 July 2010.
Classes will receive either academic credit or vocational credit. Academic credit can be applied to a degree program at Parkland, or transferred to another college. Vocational credit will count towards annual Continuing Education Units (CEUs) where applicable, and may in the future count towards academic programs. There is no charge to students for this service.
Students from across Illinois have the opportunity to earn their Associate's Degree in Fire Science through Parkland College as an additional benefit from this partnership. To do this, IFSI students, regardless of their county of residence, will need to apply to become students at Parkland, and meet with a counselor to create a degree plan.
Classes taken 30 June 2010 and earlier can still be considered for college credit by individual colleges. For these classes, it is the responsibility of the student to work with the specific college to determine how to best apply credit for IFSI courses. There is no mechanism to provide direct credit for classes that occurred before the agreement between Parkland College and IFSI was put in place.
