Job Description:

As Director of the Illinois Fire Service Institute, the statutory Illinois State Fire Academy, Richard Jaehne leads development of new curricula across the continuum of fire service training, research and development of training facilities. He also provides Illinois representation in state and national fire service forums.

Military Service:

•Colonel, United States Marine Corps (Retired) 1968-1997
•Served in Vietnam, the Far East, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe and Washington, DC
•Commandant of the NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany which is NATO’s Operational School for military and civilian staff and commanders.
•Director of Operations, U. S. Marine Corps (1993-1995). Responsible for Marine security force policy worldwide, including Marine Security Guards attached to U.S. embassies.
•Directed USMC crisis management activities, including operation of the Marine Corps Crisis Action Center, coordinating Marine disaster relief assistance with FEMA and mutual support efforts with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other Federal agencies.
•During the height of the Lebanese Civil War and Syrian Occupation (1987-1989), planned and executed operations in support of the American Embassy in Beirut.
•Earned many U.S., foreign and personal awards, medals and commendations, including the Purple Heart and the German Honor Cross in Silver, the German government’s highest peacetime military award.
•Awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism while serving as a 2nd Lt. and Platoon Leader with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Division in Quang Nam Province

Extensive formal officer studies in national and international security, to include the Air War College, 1987, marine Corps Command & Staff College 1983
