IEMS is divided into four departments: Operations, Education, Finance and Public Relations. Each department has one director and multiple assistants. The president oversees the entire organization. Officer positions are determined each year through a process of applications, nominations, and elections.
The bike team is composed entirely of EMT's working in pairs to cover outdoor events. Two teams are present at football games and are outfitted with all the equipment of a normal team except for a spineboard. Bike teams recieve the highest call volumes of any type of team, making it an exciting and rewarding experience. Our bike EMT's go through a training course at the end of the spring semester. Applications are released once per year to current members.
Occasional training courses are offered to become a certified AHA BLS Instructor. These instructors are responsible for teaching new members the theory and practical skills of CPR, rescue breathing, and choking management for adults, children, and infants at the Healthcare Provider level. The BLS Instructor is also qualified to teach Heartsaver CPR/AED as well as First Aid. This is a unique way to become a leader in IEMS, and your teaching may give someone the skills and knowledge necessary to make a difference in a patient’s life. Applications are released once per year to current members.
Supervisors are vital assets to the Illini EMS Operations Department who promote quality patient care and safety. Weekly Supervisors ensure adequate staffing and quality patient care at all events that fall within their assigned supervisor week(s). Additionally, Weekly Supervisors assure transportation of necessary equipment to and from venues (working along with the Operations Equipment Officer and the Assistant Director of Operations). Applications are released once per year to current members.
