In 1978, a group of student EMTs realized that the two first-aid rooms at Memorial Stadium did not provide adequate medical coverage. It is this need for medical coverage that led to the founding of IEMS. Since then, IEMS has provided emergency medical coverage to around 250 campus events annually.
IEMS is dedicated to providing quality emergency medical care to the campus community, as well as educating the community in emergency treatment.
IEMS is a basic life support (BLS), non-transport service. We provide quality emergency medical care by providing standby medical teams to events across campus. The events we cover include sporting events such as football games, the Krannert Center for Performing Arts events, and commencement ceremonies. We run EMT classes each semester under the guidelines of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Also offered are courses in CPR, AED, and First Aid at various levels of detail for both healthcare providers and the general community.
