After a cardiac arrest at the Memorial Stadium in 1979, a group of student EMTs realized that the two first-aid rooms at Memorial Stadium did not provide adequate medical coverage. It is this need for medical coverage that led to the founding of IEMS. Since then, IEMS has provided emergency medical coverage to around 250 campus events annually.
IEMS is dedicated to providing quality emergency medical care to the campus community, as well as educating the community in emergency treatment.
IEMS is a basic life support (BLS), non-transport service. We provide quality emergency medical care by providing standby medical teams to events across campus at no cost. The events we cover include sporting events such as football games, the Krannert Center for Performing Arts events, and commencement ceremonies. We also offer EMT classes that license students at the State of Illinois EMT-Basic level and American Heart Association (AHA) CPR classes. We maintain a close connection with advanced medical services around the campus to ensure that the patient receives adequate care.
