On July 21, 1956, Chicago Fire Department Captain David O. Brown suffered a fatal heart attack while on duty as the commander of the fire boat Fred A. Busse. He had been a member of the department for 29 years.
Funeral services for Brown were held on July 24 at St. Maurice’s Church, and he was survived by his widow, four sons, two daughters, and two brothers.
