On May 2, 1963, Chicago Fire Department Engineer Leroy Re suffered a fatal heart attack while on duty at city hall. Re and another firefighter had been summoned from the fire commissioner’s office to attend to a woman who had collapsed in the city hall lobby. After successfully reviving the woman with an inhalator, Re complained of difficulty breathing. The inhalator was then applied to Re, who was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
