On July 15, 1992, Firefighter Mitchell “Kim” Meredith of the Sangamon Valley Fire Protection District died in the line of duty while fighting a residential fire in Foosland, Illinois.
Meredith collapsed on the roof of the house while contributing to ventilation operations. He was transported to Gibson Community Hospital in Gibson City, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
