On November 21, 2021 Argonne National Laboratory Fire Department Firefighter Scott Williams died in the line of duty. Williams had responded to reports of smoke in a lab the previous day. After investigating the smoke Williams returned to the firehouse, where he was later found unresponsive.
Williams was a firefighter with the Argonne National Laboratory Fire Department for three years. Previously he worked as a firefighter with Wilmington Fire Protection District. He served in the Illinois National Guard for 15 years.
Williams was buried at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois. He was survived by his widow, two children, and grandchildren.
