On April 23rd, 1971, Chicago Fire Department Lieutenant Joseph Janovic of Hook and Ladder 54 died in the line of duty after suffering a heart attack outside of his firehouse. Janovic, a twenty-eight year veteran with the department, had just returned to quarters following a fire alarm.
