The Illinois Fire Service Institute’s Fire Prevention program offers a variety of classes designed to prepare firefighters, officers and other first responders to deliver fire prevention and public safety education. This program area also includes classes for Public Information Officer, and other related topics.
Course topics included a history of fire prevention education, learning styles, methods for effective teaching, public relations, high-risk populations, professional development, developing life safety curricula, and evaluation & assessment.
These course are designed for firefighters, fire officers, and non-commissioned fire department staff who are designated to work in a fire prevention capacity within their department. Some of these courses meet the requirements to achieve the Basic Fire Prevention Officer certification.
