Program Description

The Illinois Fire Service Institute's Agriculture Rescue Program offers courses to train Firefighters who respond to incidents in the farming and rural settings.

Course topics include: Ag Rescue Techniques, Grain Bin Rescue Awareness, Grain Bin Rescue Technician, Anhydrous Ammonia emergencies, Large Animal Rescue Awareness, and Fires on the Farm.

These courses are designed to train Firefighters who respond to emergencies that include: Tractor Rollovers, auger entrapments, livestock emergencies both in the transportation and in structures on the farm. Anhydrous emergencies includes the properties and hazards associated with the product, along with other chemical hazards on the farm. Grain Bin rescue has been broken into Awareness which focuses on responders who cannot enter a Grain Bin. The Operations level is included in the Confined Space Operations class. The Technician level class is focused on the TRT level responder who meet the requirements to enter a confined space. Fires on the farm focuses on firefighting in the rural setting including preplanning, water supply, attack methods and the different types of building construction typical to the farming community.
