Job Description: David F. Clark, as Deputy Director, is responsible for all academic and training activities at the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute, including development of curriculum and training manuals. He also oversees all Program Directors and Regional Representatives, and directs more than 600 IFSI field instructors. He assists the Director with management of IFSI.Professional Service: • Served as a firefighter from his entry into the fire service in 1965 with the Brimfield Community Fire Protection District, which he later served as Chief, and with the Normal (Illinois) Fire Department.• Joined IFSI as a field instructor in 1975 and moved to full-time with the Institute in 1977. • Member of Illinois Terrorism Task Force (ITTF) Training Sub-Committee • Serves on numerous administrative, professional, University of Illinois and public service committees • Certified as a Firefighter III, Instructor IV, Fire Apparatus Engineer (OSFM), Advanced Peer Debriefer (ICISF) • Taught and coordinated most classes that IFSI offers, including - Certified Firefighter II Academy - Tactics & Strategy I & II - Fire Attack and Suppression Techniques (FAST) - Smoke Divers - Officers Fireground School - First-in Officer - “Saving Our Own” - Industrial classes, and others • Guest instructor at FDIC and numerous conferences and fire schools across the U.S. • Participated in curriculum development and writing training manuals for IFSI, OSFM and International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) • Regularly contributed to research projects on heat stress, trench ventilation, floor systems and others • Published numerous articles in national fire service journals • Assisted authors with editing and reviewed fire service books and videos • Directing and editing the “Down & Dirty” CD/DVD training series Military Service: • Sgt.
