Emergency Response to Terrorism: Basic Concepts Online


Course Overview:
The primary target audience for this course includes four groups of people: the Fire Service, Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Personnel and Hazardous Materials emergency responders. In addition, this course is designed to benefit; Emergency Communications Personnel, Public Works Employees, Public Health Workers, Armed Forces, Reserves, National Guard, and Disaster Response Agencies.

This program is designed to help responders recognize and understand acts of Terrorism, both domestic and international. It will provide responders with basic knowledge on implementing self-protective measures, scene security, and tactical considerations when dealing with terrorism. Explosives, chemical, radiological, and etiological types of harm shall be discussed. This class will also give the responders an overview of the incident command structure and their role within a mass casualty disaster involving a multi-jurisdiction command system.

Only paper registration forms will be accepted for this course.

Course Mechanics:
Students will be notified about one week prior to the start of the course by their class instructor. Direction will be supplied via email providing login and further class information.

This is primarily a self-directed course. An instructor is available by email to handle course and learning content questions. Each course lasts approximately 30 days (depending on the length of the month). Student must complete all coursework within that time frame to pass the course.

Studies include:

  • Review of course objectives.
  • Course required reading (available for on and off-line study).
  • Homework activities.
  • Online quizzes.
  • Final examination.

Final Course Test:
An electronic online final exam is administered for this course. Students will be provided access to the test upon satisfactory completion of the homework activities.

Applicable Certification Level: NFA, CEU 8 hours.

Prior to the class, you will receive an email from IFSI confirming your registration. This email will also provide you with further information regarding the class, including instructor contact information and a course syllabus.

As part of the course, you will take the NFA-approved Emergency Response to Terrorism: Basic Concepts Exam (administered by the IFSI Instructor who delivers the course or their designee).
