Program Description:
The Illinois Fire Service Institute has partnered with several industry organizations to provide no-cost training for propane and oil well fire fighting.
Through a grant from the Illinois Propane Education and Research Council (IPERC), the Illinois Fire Service Institute makes Liquefied Petroleum (LP) gas fire fighting available to fire departments at no cost. IPERC provides funding for propane fuel and equipment used in training. Classes are held throughout Illinois at local fire departments and at IFSI's Champaign campus.
Oil well fire fighting training is funded through a partnership with Illinois Petroleum Resource Board and the Department of Natural Resources. These classes help firefighters and other first responders develop the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively manage a typical oilfield emergency. Classes are held in locations near Illinois' oil industry.
