Inspections Program

Program Description

The Illinois Fire Service Institute’s Inspection program offers courses which are designed to provide firefighters and other first responders the skills and knowledge to take a proactive approach to preventing fires. Classes help students recognize hazards that can contribute to the start and spread of fires, with the emphasis on commercial and residential buildings and areas.

Course topics include duties and authority, standards, codes, and permits, fire behavior, construction types and occupancies, means of egress, waters supply distribution systems and fire alarm detection systems.

All of these courses are based on NFPA 1031, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner, NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, and NFPA 5000, Building construction and Safety Code.
