Program Description:
The Homeland Security Training Program at the Illinois Fire Service Institute is the "training arm" of the Homeland Security Program in Illinois. Through the acquisition of National Fire Academy and Emergency Management Institute training courses the Institute is attempting to move Illinois responders towards a National System of emergency and disaster management as outlined in Homeland Security Presidential Directive 5, National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the National Priorities established by the Office of Domestic Preparedness (ODP). In addition to the new courses, the IFSI Homeland Security Program staff is in the process of updating Illinois Terrorism Task Force Training curricula to adhere to National Standards as set forth by ODP.
The Homeland Security Program's ultimate goal is to achieve a cadre of highly-trained and highly-motivated responders from every response discipline that can rise to the challenges that face Illinois in the future. Through development and implementation of training courses that are multi-hazard and multi-disciplinary, IFSI will assure that the goals of life safety, incident stabilization and property and environmental conservation will be achievable as the State of Illinois moves forward into a new era of response to a set of familiar and unfamiliar challenges that face Illinois and the Nation.
