WELCOME:

On behalf of the University of Illinois (U of I) and the Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI), welcome to the Firefighter II On-line course.  This course is the result of more than 2 year's planning and work to create a new opportunity for firefighters to achieve Firefighter II certification, when they cannot attend a resident academy.  This work has been funded by a special U of I Online grant and IFSI.  We believe that on-line is a new and important way that firefighters can receive critical training; however, like all forms of education it is dependent on the dedication of the student, the skill of the teacher and school, and the support of the student's fire department leadership and family.  We look forward to working with students and fire departments to achieve the same firefighter performance standards as we achieve in our resident academy. Dave Clark (Associate Director for Academic Affairs) and I want to provide special recognition to Dr. Jim Straseske, Rich Valenta and the entire U of I Web Technology Group who have dedicated themselves to achieving this result.  IFSI looks forward to working with each member of the Illinois Fire Service to help meet their training and education needs.
